I found this amazing quote yesterday, by the author Haruki Murakami.

“And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.”

I eat, breathe, contemplate, and write about surviving the storm. I even wrote a book about it, from an unusual perspective: The Little Black Book of Suicide Notes, which, I’m very excited to say, is coming out next week! I went through a long, dark storm, and because of my writing, I was one of the fortunate ones to came through the other side.

Murakami’s quote feels so right on to me. It’s true, I am a different person now than I was before the storm. Sometimes, even now, I feel the storm whipping up, and I remember my strength and endurance.

For those of you who don’t know, I’m a suicide prevention advocate. I share my words in hopes that they will help others find their way through whatever storm may be whipping around them right now.
